Les régates à l’abordage de Saint-Tropez

Trois événements maritimes sont mis à flot à partir de mai dans le paysage tropézien. De quoi en voir de toutes les couleurs et de tous horizons en matière de navigation. Starting in May, the Saint-Tropez waterfront will be the stage of three maritime events, offering a wide variety of shows to sailing lovers!

Les 22e Voiles latines de Saint-Tropez Du 29 au 30 avril
Saint-Tropez met une nouvelle fois à l’honneur le patrimoine maritime méditerranéen à l’occasion des Voiles latines. Pour l’édition 2023, la commune et la Société Tropézienne des Voiliers de tradition présidée par une figure locale, Jean-Claude Moreu, invitent les associations de voiles latines et les amateurs de voile à l’ancienne à venir naviguer dans le golfe à la découverte de la côte et de son histoire. La manifestation se recentre sur le concept d’origine de l’évènement, à savoir la navigation sur un pointu et la rencontre de passionnés prêts à en découdre par tous les temps. Une trentaine de places sera réservée dans le bassin du vieux port pour accueillir les navires dont on pourra admirer les coques colorées. « Les habitués pourront ainsi avoir le plaisir de se retrouver à bord avec les participants pour vivre des moments de partage et échanger sur leurs techniques de navigation et de restauration », précisent les organisateurs. Côté animations, les opticassous ont confirmé leur présence et Michel Rezé offrira pour le public des visites de son trois mats corsaire de 21 m « l’Ange Gardien » Si le grand chapiteau et le marché gastronomique ne seront pas dans le paysage, un atelier de charpentier de marine invité par Thierry Pons de l’association « Aventure Pluriel » et l’atelier de matelotage « Tonton Roger » feront leur grand retour à proximité de la tour du Portalet pour le bonheur des amateurs des petits bateaux de pêche du temps jadis. Saint-Tropez will once again honour its Mediterranean maritime heritage with the Voiles latines regatta. For the 2023 edition, the city of Saint-Tropez and the Société Tropézienne des Voiliers de Tradition, headed by local figure Jean-Claude Moreu, invite lateen sails associations and aficionados of old-fashioned sailing to set sail in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and discover its coasts and history. The event remains faithful to its original concept: navigating aboard a pointu and gathering sailing enthusiasts ready to face all kinds of weather. About thirty berths will be reserved in the dock of the old port to welcome the various contenders with their colourful hull. “The regulars will enjoy the opportunity to meet the participants aboard their boats and share moments to discuss about their navigation and restoration techniques,” point out the organisers. In terms of entertainment, the opticassous (small boats to learn lateen sails) have confirmed their presence and Michel Rezé will open his 21-metre three-masted privateer “L’Ange-Gardien” to visitors. Although there will be no temporary village nor gastronomic market this year, a marine carpentry workshop (invited by Thierry Pons, of the association “Aventure Pluriel”) and the “Tonton Roger” seamanship workshop are once again scheduled near the Tour du Portalet for lovers of traditional small fishing boats to enjoy…

La 70e Rolex Giraglia Du 9 au 17 juin
Cette année, la célèbre regate offshore qui célèbre ses 70 ans confirme son format original avec le traditionnel prologue Sanremo-Saint-Tropez, puis trois jours de courses côtières dans le golfe, suivis du départ de la “grande course”, prévu le mercredi 14 juin pour un parcours triangulaire de 241 milles (Saint-Tropez-Giraglia-Gênes). Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the famous offshore regatta will keep its original format, starting with the traditional San Remo-Saint-Tropez leg, followed by three days of inshore races in the bay of Saint-Tropez, and finally by the 241-nautical mile course (Saint-Tropez-Giraglia-Genoa), starting on Wednesday 14 June.
Le deuxième acte de la régate débutera le dimanche 11 juin à 11 heures avec la course côtière sur le magnifique plan d’eau du golfe de Saint-Tropez. La compétition locale se poursuivra jusqu’au mardi 13 juin. La partie tropézienne de la Giraglia se terminera par la très attendue Rolex Crew Party le mardi soir, avant que la longue course ne prenne le départ à midi le mercredi 14 juin. La semaine de navigation se terminera le samedi 17 juin par la cérémonie de remise des prix de la Giraglia Rolex, qui aura lieu chez les organisateurs, au Yacht Club Italiano à Gênes. Parmi les inscrits, les deux challengers vainqueurs en temps réel de l’année dernière. Le Magic Carpet Cubed de Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones (Wally 100), et le 100 pieds Arca SGR de Furio Benussi. Compter aussi avec d’autres candidats redoutables, comme le Flying Nikka de Roberto Lacorte, un Mills 65, pour son premier défi au large, Galateia, un Wally 100, Bullit, un Wally 93, Leopard 3, un Farr 100 et Drifter Cube, un Swan 98. My Song de Pigi Loro Piana, un ClubSwan 80, sera également sous les feux de la rampe. Après une première saison d’entraînement et de mise au point, sa vitesse et son faible déplacement peuvent en faire un concurrent sérieux pour la première place. “En plus des grands bateaux, s’aligneront des racers et des cruiser-racers de toutes tailles et caractéristiques, ce qui fait que pratiquement tous peuvent prétendre à la victoire sur handicap en fonction des conditions météorologiques, toujours imprévisibles dans une telle course !”, souligne la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, co-organisatrice de l’événement. The second act of the regatta will kick off on Sunday 11 June at 11 a.m., with the inshore race on the beautiful regatta course in the bay of Saint-Tropez. This local event will end on Tuesday 13 June. Among the participants are the two 2022 Rolex Giraglia line honours winners: Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’s Magic Carpet Cubed (Wally 100) and Furio Benussi’s 100-foot Arca SGR. Participants also worth mentioning include first-time offshore challenger Roberto Lacorte’s Flying Nikka, a Mills 65; Galateia, a Wally 100; Bullit, a Wally 93; Leopard 3, a Farr 100; and Drifter Cube, a Swan 98. Pigi Loro Piana’s My Song, a ClubSwan 80, will also be in the spotlight. After a first season of training and tuning, her speed and light displacement may make her a serious contender for the leading position. “In addition to big boats, racers and cruiser racers of all sizes and characteristics will compete, which means that practically any of them can claim victory on handicap, depending on the weather conditions, which are always unpredictable in such a race,” specifies Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, co-organiser of the event.

Le 22e Trophée Bailli de Suffren Départ de Saint-Tropez le 24 juin
Cette année, le Trophée Bailli de Suffren ralliera Saint-Tropez à Malte en passant par Bonifacio (Corse) et Trapani (Sicile). Son thème ? La « bataille de Gondelour (1783) où il y a 240 ans Suffren défaisait les anglais en Inde, permettant à la France d’installer ses premiers comptoirs commerciaux. Parmi les inscrits, le magnifique Saharet of Tyre de Luc de Clerq (33m), un Nicholson de 1933, (Malte), Recluta du célèbre architecte German Frers, un Frers de 1942, (Argentine) ainsi que les détenteurs du titre, Eugenia V de Baptiste Garnier, Amiral Satan 2022 (Malte) et Flora de Philippe Descorps Jedi 2022, (France) . Parmi les « petits nouveaux », citons Orion de Bérenger Drouin, un Swan 50 de 1977 (Belgique) et Nix de Nico Cortilever un X612 (Hollande). « Notre association avec certains de ses membres a racheté Hermitage, le magnifique Yawl de 1965 sur lequel le président américain Bill Clinton a passé quelques vacances. Dessiné par Levi/Illingworth/Primerose, il devient notre navire Amiral à bord duquel je dirigerai la course. Tout se prépare bien et nous travaillons déjà à l’édition 2024 qui pourrait saluer les Jeux Olympiques à Marseille et la Coupe de l’America à Barcelone ! », conclut le président du Marenostrum Racing Club, Lionel Péan. Le célèbre navigateur sera sur le pont du 24 juin au 5 juillet, date de la grande soirée finale au Grand Harbour Marina qui accueillera tout ce petit monde au pied du Musée Maritime de Birgu, dont le port est jumelé avec celui de Saint-Tropez. Designed by Levi/Illingworth/Primerose, she has become our flagship on which I will lead the race. Everything is going well and we are already working on the 2024 edition, which could meet the Olympic Games in Marseille and the America’s Cup in Barcelona,” concludes the president of the Marenostrum Racing Club, Lionel Péan. The famous sailor will be on deck from 24 June to 5 July, the date of the big final evening which will take place at the Grand Harbour Marina in Birgu, the twin town of Saint-Tropez, at the foot of the Malta Maritime Museum.
